Tension: Don’t dialogue with Niger Delta Avengers Niger Delta Youth Parliament Group tells Buhari

NDYP stated that if the federal government goes to the dialogue table with the NDA, other militant groups will take up arms and face the government, asking for their own fresh demands.

While speaking, the national coordinator of NDYP, Imoh Okoko, explained in an interview with some journalists on Tuesday, June 21, in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state.

The NDYP coordinator advised the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari, to study the remote causes of the militancy and proffer lasting solution, as well as seeking advice from the major stakeholders and interest groups across the Niger Delta states, which is a method of ending the issue of militancy in the Niger Delta region once and for all.

Okoko, who used the amnesty programme of late president, Umar Musa Yar’Adua as an example, citing the fraud which was committed by some of the coordinators of the amnesty programme said: “Oil companies operating in the region have abused the process of amnesty, which I believe is what led to the regrouping of the current militant group in the Niger Delta. “Imagine the oil companies employing Lebanese as labour because they felt the federal government has given the Niger Delta militants amnesty.”

Tension: Niger Delta Planning Fresh Invasion in Ogun state

The police in Ogun state have revealed that militants from the Niger Delta region invaded a community in the state because they were being flushed out in their region.

It was reported that armed men raided Imushin community, Ogijo area of Ogun state, in the late hours of June 17, killing at least 15 residents.

The militants on a killing spree were about 100 in number. They carried guns and cutlasses. Among the 15 killed were a technician, a travel agent, and even a Muslim cleric from a local mosque. The Hausa community vowed to make the attackers pay for the death of two of its members. Vanguard reports that Abdulmajid Ali who is the commissioner of police in Ogun state conformed that the perpetrators of the attack were militants from the Niger Delta region who were looking a haven because of military operation in the region.

Ali said the invasion of Imushin community in Ogijo area of the state said the issue must not be treated with levity. Although it was reported that 15 people died in the attack, the police commissioner claimed that only three persons died. “It’s not true that 15 people were killed there. The DPO Ogijo was on ground; he reported that only three people were killed and their bodies have been recovered from the scene,” Ali said. He said the deployment of military personnel in the region has promoted the militants to be breaking new grounds in order to continue “to perpetrate oil theft, pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering.” He said the militants carry out their attacks and return to the creek and that they were also responsible for pipeline vandalism and economic sabotage in the Arepo axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He warned that if their activities were not checked, it could develop to insurgency.

NDPF names Tompolo as Niger Delta Avengers sponsor

The Niger Delta Patriotic Front (NDPF) has laid serious accusation against Mr Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo that he is the main sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers.

The militant group has claimed responsibility for series of bombing of oil and gas pipelines in the region and has vowed to continue to do so until zero oil is produced in the region. The former militant has been accused of being a member of the Niger Delta Avenger due to his case with the federal government which has made him arraigned before a court in Lagos in absentia.

Tompolo who has been hiding since the government got a warrant for his arrest has written series of letter denying his involvement in the operation of the militants.

The coordinator of NDDF through Mr Joel Tamarakepreye who is the director of information of the group said in a statement released too Naij.com on Sunday, June 19 that Tompolo was the greatest sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers.

The statement read: The Niger Delta Patriotic Front feels compelled to react to the latest round of vitriol, misinformation and outright falsehood being feed the general public by a group of brigands and attention seekers that the so called Niger Delta Avengers has proven to be. In other to set the records straight and expose the emptiness of this group of Niger Delta Cowards, their self-serving agenda and their desperation to attract media headlines and government attention for a political settlement for their personal crimes, the general public is called to ponder on the following: The NDA due to their low level of enlightenment and poor world view has finally unveiled its sponsors and sympathisers. Their sponsor is Tompolo and their greatest sympathiser is Ibe Kachukwu.

In their publications which are a poor effort at meaningful propaganda and decoy, they in one swoop called on Boyloaf, Ateke Tom and Tompolo to stay clear of any negotiation with the government on their behalf and in another swell they generalized by imputing the names of Timipre Sylva, Ayiri Emami and Boyloaf to stay clear of negotiations and focused on Boyloaf for the remainder of their press statement. Why are the cowardly NDA and Tompolo so fixated with Boyloaf, Ayiri and Timipre Sylva? The Niger Delta Patriotic Front has always maintained that this round of agitation by this group of Niger Delta Elements is solely meant for personal benefits and not in the larger interest of the Niger Delta Region. When they had a God’s given opportunity to impact positively on the region, by the countless favours and benefits they accessed from our Brother the former President, what did they do with it? Rather they cheated their own very community, unintelligently stole and diverted government funds like primitive men that they are and abused the privileges of their offices for personal gains. It is unfortunate that the Ijaw Nation has been on silent mode since this senseless criminal action orchestrated by Tompolo. By their silence, they have acquiesced to Tompolo’s madness, and they should remember what Ijaw stands for and know that the struggle for inclusion, environmental, economic and political rights of the Ijaw Nation cannot be championed by known thieves in the guise of freedom fighters and occasional resource control enthusiasts.
If we may ask, where was their Niger Delta fervour, in the 5 or so years of the past administration? If the entire nation and the international community must take the Niger Delta serious, we must have the conscience to call a spade a spade and be truthful to ourselves. The cowardly NDA, with the machination Delta State Deputy Governor, a known member of the NDA, and their sympathiser at the NNPC Towers, has tried over the past few weeks to force on government a farce scenario of on-going negotiation and the cowardly NDA has thus declared a unilateral ceasefire to give fillip to this farce negotiations. Nigerians should not be deceived, the cowardly NDA does not have the capacity to sustain their current madness, hence their insistence in forcing down the throat of Nigerians the reality of an on-going negotiations of which output or conclusion will lead to a so called political solution that will require the Attorney General of the Federation to discontinue the criminal trial of Tompolo and his band of Ex-NIMASA Executives and also Colonel Dasuki. Is it not laughable and a clear pointer to the political agenda of the cowardly NDA that the unconditional release of Colonel Dasuki is a major line item in their demands? What relationship does the trial of Colonel Dasuki has on the Niger Delta demands for a fair deal from Nigeria? The Niger Delta Patriotic Front knows that currently there are no meaningful negotiations going on with any group in the Niger Delta, other than the usual discussions and lamentations that the people have for many years been engaging themselves, the Nation and the world for solutions to their economic and environmental challenges. The cowardly NDA and their cowardly sponsor should be men enough to face the reality of the outcome of their killings of Nigerian Army personnel and destruction of Oil and Gas infrastructure and leave General Boyloaf, Ayiri and Timipre Sylva out of their meaningless and non-existing negotiations.  General Boyloaf, Chief Ateke Tom,Farah Dagogo and other forthright champions of the Niger Delta Struggle, have fought a very good fight during the Oil war and accepted amnesty from the Federal Government of Nigeria. These leaders continue to agitate for economic and infrastructural development of the Niger Delta Region through non-violent platforms of constructive engagements. The Niger Delta Patriotic Front posits that there are clear distinction between personal, corporate and regional interests, advises Tompolo and his sympathisers not mix up interests and issues for their greed and quest for personal salvation. The Niger Delta Patriotic Front calls on our brothers from the South East not to be deceived by the entreaties of this band of Niger Delta renegades. They should ask themselves how many Easterners benefited from NIMASA contracts when they held sway there. The cowardly NDA seek to create a larger platform to unify the Niger Delta and South East into a single political agenda. Our South East brothers should know that while there are similarities between our aspirations, we are competing rivals in the Nigerian market place, and these men that seek to involve them are not honourable and the Niger Delta region will not reward them nor return the favour of supporting criminals. The Niger Delta Patriotic Front therefore calls on all those who seek to use and divert the Niger Delta Struggle to cover up the thieving and looting levelled against them individually and the corporate entities in which they have substantial interests to desist from doing so, as no one of us owns the Niger Delta Struggle, we only play our part and leave for the next generation, that they should not corrupt the legacy of the Niger Delta Struggle by their selfish actions of today. Tension: Niger Delta Avengers gives final warning to 7 governors “We will attack” if they don't release pro-Biafra protesters

The Niger Delta Avengers has issued a final chilling warning to seven governors to release pro-Biafra protesters being held in police and military custodies in their states or face the full wrath of the militants.

The militant group has blown-up oil and gas pipeline in the Niger Delta region and has vowed to continue to do so until oil production in the region is grounded.

The group has also shown allegiance to pro-Biafra groups and this relationship seems to be confirmed in the latest statement issued by the militant group. Premium Times reports that in a statement signed by Mudoch Agbinibo who is the spokesperson of the group, The Niger Delta Avengers gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the governors to release the pro-Biafra supporters under arrest in their states. The governors threatened are : Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Willie Obiano of Anambra, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. The statement read:“We request the immediate release of all pro-Biafrans activist held in your various Police/Military Custody, you are hereby given 72 hours to release them or risk your convoys, police station, military base and government offices being attacked.

“We are not negotiating with anybody and nobody is representing us. In 48 hours we will release a video clip showing our arms and the targeted areas. “All strike team already in position awaiting command.

Niger Delta militants announce ceasefire, demand immediate release of Kanu

The new militant group Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), which claimed affiliation with Niger Delta Avengers, has announced ceasefire, TheCable reports.

The militants had earlier vowed to launch six missiles in the region and to also lock down Nigeria’s airspace, but it said it resolved to do otherwise after the federal government proposed talks. Meanwhile, the group said government would have to follow its demand if it wants the peace to be continued.

JNDLF listed demands that comprised the immediate release of former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, setback of the order to freeze the bank accounts of the former militant leader Tompolo, formation of Matitime University in Okerenkoko, Delta stateand others.

The group said in a statement: “We shall continue to engage in dialogue if our demands are met. Our representatives for the dialogue, especially the governors and others will not betray our demands with the federal government. Any betrayal on their own part shall be viewed as betrayal of the entire region and we shall go after them immediately as they know our mode of operation in which they will not escape from us. “There is no gainsaying that we made our earlier promise to launch six missiles simultaneously against some targeted areas. But this was waved aside as a result of appeals made to us through email by the federal government and some international nations to open talks with Buhari. “We saw some genuine aspiration on the part of Buhari, who made several contacts to us to see reason with them over the issue of under-development of the region. And since he (Buhari) had set the ball rolling for a clear negotiation with us, there is no problem without solution. We have therefore declared ceasefire in order to negotiate with the government if it is a true reflection of what they have in mind to develop the Niger Delta region.” The demands of the militants also comprise: – Implementation of the report of the 2014 national conference – Removal of Paul Boroh, coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme and should be replaced with Dr. Felix Tuodolo who has been in the struggle of non-violence since 1980 and he was the designer of the amnesty programme – Ready to negotiate with the federal government for the sake of monetary benefit to us but how genuinely the government will develop the region is at the centre of our discussion and anything less than that we will continue our struggle without further warning to the federal government – Immediate release of IPOB leader and Biafra Radio Director, Nnamdi Kanu.

Tension as Bakassi send strong message to Avengers

A group of militants in Akwa-Cross region under the aegis of Bakassi Strike Force has called on the federal government to listen to the agitations of the Niger Delta Avengers.

The Bakassi militant group condemned the incessant bombings of oil pipelines in the oil rich Niger Delta region by the Avengers, Channels TV reports.

Speaking at Esuk Mba, in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River state, Simple Benjamin, the leader of the group, advised the government to adopt the approach of the American Ambassador to Nigeria who is an advocate for dialogue as war alone cannot solve their problems in tackling the issue.

He explained that there was no struggle without a reason, and the Avengers had their reasons for attacking oil facilities in the region. Mba however, said they were not in support of the militants activities, asking them to stop the attacks as it was no the solution to their grievances

“It is cheaper to make peace as war leads to more destruction. Fellow compatriots of the Niger Delta Avengers Please sheathe your sword and give peace a chance. I think you have made your point, hence you should give government chance to respond. Enough of the bombings, please. I call on the sponsors of the Niger Delta Avengers to have a rethink of their actions. I also appeal to security agencies to thread softly as two wrongs don’t make a right,” he said. The leader of the Bakassi militant group noted that the attacks had a retrogressive effect on Nigeria’s economy. There has been continued tension in the Niger Delta region following a resurgence of militancy in the area.

The Niger Delta Avengers blow up oil and gas facilities in the region almost on a daily basis and they have vowed to continue until their demands are met by the federal government.

Nigerian new militant group Niger Delta Avengers has appealed to world leaders to intervene into the country’s affairs. The Avengers in a statement released on June 9, Thursday, complained about the state of the Niger Delta region, accusing the Nigerian government for its depleted condition.

The group also advised world leaders to act quickly and not wait until the Niger Delta goes the way of Sudan. The statement titled “Enough of this Injustice” reads: “Since the day crude oil was discovered in commercial quantity and quality in Oloibiri, present day Bayelsa state, what we have being asking from successive governments in Nigeria is portable drinking water in the midst of plenty of water mass, electricity, roads, employment, quality education/educational facilities, resource control, participation in the oil business and inclusive governance that will engender substantial freedom.

“The reserve have been the case, from Oloibiri, Brass LNLG and export terminals in Bayelsa; Bonny LNLG and export terminals in River state; ExxonMobil in Akwa Ibom; Escravos EGTL/ Tankfarm and export terminals; Forcados Tankfarm and export terminals in Delta state operated respectively by Anglo-Dutch Shell, Chevron/Texaco Over seas, Agip ENI, ExxonMobil. The history of the communal lives is terror of poverty, inhumanity and desolate living conditions. But when you move into these facilities operated by the Multinational Oil Corporations, they are living like Kings and Presidents. “For over five decades, we have given multinational oil corporations and their collaborator the Nigerian state peace, cooperation and love for the crude oil to flow unhindered from our land. The continuous tranquility is only manifesting in the development of mountains, rock, valleys, deserts and lagoon but the Niger Delta territory continually alienated from all types of development and all essence of quality human life. Main while all successive governments worship the crude oil taken from the region. Our communities and the people are only good at securing the pipelines, oil and gas facilities. What a tragedy? “We are calling on the international community especially Britain, France, the United State of America, Russia, China and European Union to speak up against this ongoing terror and come to the aid of the Niger Delta, as witnesses to this grave inhumanity and history of terror perpetuated against the people of the Niger Delta daily. This history of terror, we the Niger Delta Avengers will resist and correct with every means necessary. We have nothing to lose in the battles ahead; justice they say is only found within the structure of a nation state, rather than provide this justice the Nigerian government has decided to mobilise her military might to intimidate, torture, maim, victimise and bombard a section of the nation state and her citizenry to allow the free flow of our oil. “Some persons, groups, and commentators may ask, what do the people of Niger delta want? We are not like some of these personalities who run champagne parties or turn Rivers state government house into a house patrimony of god-sons and prebendalism. They says the progress and success of a nation state is the reflection of her constitution that is not manufactured to favour some section and excludes the yearning and aspirations of others; but the indwelling spiritual and historical development of its people.

“Since the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914 to date, our resources have been used to sustain the political administrative live wire of Nigeria to the exclusion of the Niger Delta. “Finally, we are calling on the international community, to come and support the restoration of our right to peaceful self-determination from this tragedy of 1914 that has expired since 2014. We want our resources back to restore the essence of human life in our region for generations to come because Nigeria has failed to do that. The world should not wait until we go the Sudan ways.” The Niger Delta Avengers has taken it upon themselves to start a war against all oil and gas companies in the region in February this year. Several oil export terminals are under force majeure because of the attacks of the militants. They comprise the Forcados, Brass River and Bonny Light terminals.

The NDA recently denied the government’s request for talks. The group said they aren’t interested in talks and they also said that they had carried out another attack on a Chevron oil well.

Niger Delta Militants Release Full Demands To Stop Bombings

A new militant group, Ultimate Warriors of Niger Delta, has demanded that 60 percent of Nigeria’s oil blocks be given to the Niger Delta region, threatening to attack oil and gas facilities if the Federal Government does not accede to the request.

The group, which spoke for the first time on Wednesday, also demanded that work at the $16billion Export Processing Zone, which is also called Delta Gas City Project, must commence in earnest.

The militants gave the Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to ensure that their demands were met in order to engender a lasting ceasefire in the region.



Spokesperson for the group, Sibiri Taiowoh, in a statement, said if the government truly wanted peace in the region, it should award 60 percent of the country’s oil blocks to the people of the Niger Delta.

The group also demanded for the commencement of academic activities at the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Tompolo's village, established during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The group threatened to shut down the facilities of multinationals oil companies operating in the area.

The Ultimate Warriors claimed to be behind some of the recent pipeline bombings in the country.

The statement read, “We want 60 percent of the oil blocks to be allocated to the Niger Delta just as the Federal Government allocated 80 percent to those who are not from the oil-producing area and just as 50 percent of the nation’s resources was used to develop the non-oil regions when we were producing cocoa and groundnut as main economic resources.

“The same 50 percent should be used to develop the Niger Delta region because we are the ones suffering the brunt of oil pollution and degradation.

“We are behind the recent pipeline bombings in the Niger Delta region and I can assure you we will not stop until the Export Processing Zone project and the Maritime University are completed and start operations.”
